Christ with Arms Folded
This picture is reminiscent of the series of portrayals of the apostles Rembrandt painted around 1661. Despite the ravages of time, it has kept all its power. The figure of Christ is immediately accessible yet enigmatic. The image is a mixture of previous works—the heads of Christ, Pilgrims at Emmaus—yet renews the emotion they instill in us.
