Introduction

The Supper at Emmaus

In this emulation of Rembrandt’s Pilgrims at Emmaus, the pupil was clearly trying to differentiate himself from his master: the trompe-l’œil curtain, suddenly drawn open, emphasizes the moment of the revelation, the architecture is simplified, and natural light has been replaced with artificial light.
