Introduction

Bust of a Young Jew

While working relentlessly on the representation of Christ, Rembrandt painted numerous portraits of members of the Jewish community in Amsterdam. This very late picture illustrates the constant to-ing and fro-ing between the biblical and contemporary world running through Rembrandt’s work.
